My Care Community: PLATFORM Design and Development

My Care Community (MCC) is a digital platform developed to support families in their time of need by connecting them with trusted care resources and fostering a sense of community. Focused on older adults and individuals with disabilities, MCC addresses the broader challenges faced by families during critical periods. Developed by BlanckAnt Studio, the project prioritizes accessibility, usability, and user engagement, ensuring that all family members—regardless of age or ability—can access essential services and support.

Stage 01

Project Evaluation

The journey to developing MCC began with a comprehensive evaluation of the unique challenges faced by families when dealing with care needs. Our research focused on understanding obstacles related to digital accessibility, trust in online services, and the diverse requirements of families in crisis or transition.

Research and Discovery
We initiated the project by conducting stakeholder interviews, user surveys to identify key pain points. These sessions highlighted three major challenges:

  1. Accessibility Issues: Families, including older adults and those with disabilities, often encounter difficulties with small text, low contrast, and complex navigation.
  2. Community Trust: Establishing a sense of security and trust within the platform was essential for families during vulnerable times.

Based on these insights, we defined our project goals:

  • Create a highly accessible interface tailored to the needs of diverse family members.
  • Design a user-friendly platform that encourages continuous engagement and support across different family structures.
  • Develop a trustworthy and reliable look and feel to build community confidence.

Stage 02

Development of the Design System

The design system emerged as a critical asset for maintaining visual consistency and enhancing development speed. It includes:

  • Component Library: Standardized buttons, inputs, cards, and modal components to streamline updates and improvements.
  • Documentation and Guidelines: Ensuring that developers and designers follow best practices for consistency and quality across updates.

Research and Discovery
Our research identified the following key challenges:

  1. Outdated Visual Design: The existing interface lacked a modern and dynamic look that users expected from a new platform.
  2. Complex User Navigation: Users reported difficulties in navigating between features and understanding the platform’s structure.
  3. Inconsistent Design Elements: The lack of a unified design system led to visual fragmentation and usability issues.

Based on these findings, we established our project goals:

  • Modernize the Visual Identity: Align the platform’s look and feel with contemporary standards.
  • Streamline Navigation: Simplify user flows to ensure an intuitive experience.
  • Create a Unified Design System: Standardize UI elements to enhance consistency and scalability.

Stage 03

Website Development

Wireframing and Prototyping
The initial phase involved creating wireframes and prototypes to map out the website’s information architecture and user flow. We adhered to the following core principles:

  • Simplicity and Clarity: Presenting all information in a clean, straightforward manner to ease navigation for families during stressful times.
  • Accessibility Compliance: Following WCAG 2.1 guidelines to meet AA and AAA standards, ensuring that every family member can access the platform with ease.
  • User Feedback Integration: Regular testing with target users to gather feedback and drive iterative improvements.

Visual Design and Branding
We developed a comprehensive design system to maintain consistency across the platform, including:

  • Color Palette: High-contrast colors that improve readability and support users with varying visual needs.
  • Typography: Sans-serif fonts with a minimum size of 16px for body text, ensuring legibility for all ages.
  • Components and UI Elements: Accessible buttons, clear navigation menus, and intuitive visual cues that facilitate a seamless user experience.

Reusable components were designed to ensure scalability as the platform evolved, following atomic design principles to build a cohesive and modular design system.

Design System Implementation
Our development team translated the visual concepts into functional components by creating a library of standardized UI elements. Key components included:

  • Primary Buttons: Prominent and easy-to-click elements with accessible color combinations.
  • Navigation Menus: Simple, large-text menus with clear hierarchy and easy-to-understand labels, suitable for all family members.

Forms and Input Fields: Clearly labeled with ample spacing and real-time error feedback to support intuitive interactions.

Stage 04

Platform Development

Technical Implementation
The platform was built using modern, scalable technologies to ensure reliability and performance. Key integrations included:

  • Responsive Design: Accommodating various devices and screen sizes for families on the go.
  • Integrated Communication Tools: Enabling families to message, interact, and connect with community resources in real time.

Following Steps

  1. Continuous User Feedback Integration
We are committed to maintaining an ongoing feedback loop with our users. As family needs and preferences evolve, MCC will adapt to remain relevant and effective.
  2. Expanding the Feature Set
    Planned features include:
    • Advanced Communication Tools: Enhancing group interactions and real-time updates to support family conversations and community engagements.
    • Personalization Options: Allowing users to customize their experience based on their unique family dynamics and needs.
    • Resource Discovery Enhancements: Making it even easier for families to locate and access relevant services and support.

Monitoring and Optimization
Our team continues to monitor platform performance, focusing on accessibility improvements, bug fixes, and optimizing the overall user experience to meet the diverse needs of families.

Conclusion

The My Care Community platform is more than just a digital tool—it’s a bridge to community support for families in their time of need. Through a rigorous, user-centered design and development process, we have built an intuitive, accessible, and engaging platform that adapts to the evolving challenges of modern family life. Moving forward, we will continue to listen to our users, evolve the platform, and enhance its capabilities to better support families during critical times.
